Ever yearn for that free time to do the creative things that you enjoy? Do you ever think about turning that hobby into a side hustle? If so, you are feeding your need for intellectual wellness. Wellness comes in many forms, and creativity is one of them. Whether it is daily journal writing, gardening, cooking, crafting, or painting/drawing, it doesn’t matter what form it takes. What is important is engaging in these creative pursuits. These activities broaden the mind, increase your intelligence and problem solving skills, PLUS it’s a release from the every day routine and stressors in life. Usually our creative outlets are activities we are either good at or something we are interested in learning how to do. It makes us feel good to create and share with others.
Are you thinking to yourself that you don’t have time to focus on your photography or painting? You have too many obligations that come before this creative time? How much time do you spend on social media? Is that a priority? Or could that hour be spent on a creative pursuit? What I have learned is that what we get done in a day is all based on what we prioritize on a daily basis. You have to be intentional. If you make the time for (fill in the blank), you will get it done. Make a to do list or plan it out on a weekly calendar. It’s not necessary to do it every day, but maybe once a week? Perhaps an hour on a Saturday? Take the time to make it a priority and before you know it, it will become a habit; a habit that will increase your intellectual wellness and increase your happiness overall.
